Summer is finally here!! I just celebrated Summer Solstice with an amazing group of women + RedBull this week where we took a Terrarium class, a Social Media workshop and even an Affirmation workshop. It was so much fun!! You can see more details HERE. But it got me thinking of how I am actually getting ready for the new season and panic hit me! Summer is already here and I don’t feel ready, typical right?? I even made a deal with my best friend so that we would meet our health and fitness goals by the month of May and guess what? He did amazing! He lost all the weight he wanted, but more than that he completely changed his diet, looks so fit (PROUD OF HIM!) and I… well let’s just say I fell behind haha. But I’m sure I’m not the only one, so I’m here to tell you it’s Not Too Late!! That’s why I want to share what I’ve been up to this month to keep up, some little tips here and there and hopefully motivate you to get started!
For this time of year I love working out outside! I find that it motivates me more than being indoors so I’ll go hiking, running at the beach, take a yoga class in the park, even going kayaking with my bestie, anything that keeps me under the sun and I always see better results! There’s something about being surrounded by nature that gives me that extra energy I need. Now, I still take a booty barre class and lift weights at the gym once or twice a week to keep my routine fresh, but for me it’s the outdoor workouts that keep me going. And now that it’s Summer I intend to make the most of it! But I always make sure I apply sunscreen before leaving the house and bring a hat with me to stay safe. Since I was very young I was taught that the way we eat matters. It’s not just which foods go better together, but things like taking your time when having a meal, the correct portions for you, to think about how many times you chew your food before you swallow, all these things matter. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I kept count every single time! But the point was to be conscious of the food I was eating so that I would recognise when my body was full instead of stopping only after I began feeling sick. This way I learned to eat 5 times a day, which led me to drink more water throughout the day and in general it helped with my metabolism! This also means I get hungry every few hours, but I always make sure to keep healthy snacks around me and I do keep them EVERYWHERE! In my purses, in my car and I even bring snacks to my boyfriend’s house if I know I’ll be spending the day there. I bring things like almonds, walnuts, mandarins, apples or my favorite is getting a green juice! It makes me feel good knowing that I’m eating all those healthy greens.
TRY SOMETHING NEW
It’s good to have a routine and sticking to it, but every now and then it’s good to mix it up! And one way of keeping yourself motivated is by getting out of your comfort zone and trying that one class you were always curious about. There’s Aerial Yoga for example, this was one I honestly didn’t think I would like and I was surprised at how much fun I had and not to mention what a great workout it is, specially for your core. Or maybe you can try Pilates this Summer or go Paddle Boarding. Or try something your friends are doing, mine take a Boxing class and say it’s the best workout they’ve ever tried! I however bruise with the slightest touch to my skin so I know that one isn’t for me, but I can’t stop hearing how amazing it is! The point is to challenge yourself to do something different and let me tell you the thrill I get from trying something new, combined with the feeling of accomplishment and strength I get after my workout is beyond anything I’ve ever felt before! It makes me push harder over longer periods of time.
