5 Blogging Resources

Hi Guys!

It’s been a while since I’ve shared some tips and resources I use on my blog, so I thought I decided I would dedicate this week’s post to just that!

 1. Tools for your BlogCreative Market.  I use this website for their Fonts, I LOVE them! They are really easy to install and are not expensive. They also have Themes, Graphics and Plug-ins.  They have it all! By the way.. the font I use for my “XO ERIKA”at the bottom of my blog posts was bought from this site. I usually pay $8 per font, this one was $16 but I also used it for my business cards and pretty much everything else so it was worth it! Here’s the link if you want to check it out.
 2. Tracking your Social MediaIconosquare.  Some of you might have heard of this site before and yes its just as great as they say! You can use it to track your Instagram statistics. From your hashtags, the best times a day to post, your engagement, it basically gives you full control. It’s a great tool to use whether you needed it for personal reasons or business like creating your Media Kit. They have a 7-day free trial so I would recommend you check it out to see if it’s a right match for your needs.
 3. Improve your mind with Books: This is a great way to stay motivated! And you should never stop learning so I’m sharing some of the authors I love:                                    –Malcolm Gladwell is my favourite right now! I read Outliers: The Story of Success and loved it. He talks about the pattern behind brilliant software billionaires, athletes, musicians and how their backgrounds, family and culture led them to be successful in each of their industries. After reading it I immediately bought The Tipping Point. Now this one talks about how some trends, ideas and social behaviours can sky-rocket and explains the reasons behind this sudden success. Both books are really helpful for anyone! But they have really helped me understand this Blogging/Fashion Industry. I highly recommend them!                                                                                                              –Garance Doré brings you a candid view on her career as one of the first bloggers out there. In Love Style Life she shares stories on life, style and truth behind the fashion industry. It’s not a Pulitzer winning book by any means, it’s a fun book read. BUT what I truly loved about it her witty unapologetic style of writing. She is brutally honest, she’s not full of herself (like 90% of the books in this category are) and has truly impeccable style. A true gem in this industry. I read this book on my last vacation and fell in love with her journey.
 4. Links: Bitly I rely on this website all the time! If there is something I hate seeing is long endless links on profiles. And with Bitly you can easily shorten your links for any platform. They also provide measure and optimization services on your audience and marketing strategies. But I mostly use it for links.
 5. Engage with your Readers: ConvertKit . This is the only one I havent fully tried. But now that I’m thinking of jumping on email lists I am dying to put this website to work! I have done a lot of reasearch and this one seems to be the best fit. From what I’ve seen so far its pretty easy to use and holds the reputation for the best marketing service out there. But what really did it for me was that it was created by a Blogger for Bloggers.

Fashion Blogging: Tips, Tricks and The Truth Behind It

Hi guys!

Lately I’ve been reading a lot about blogging, other blogger’s experience in the industry, how they started and how they continue to grow. We all have a different thing we bring to the table, different styles, we come from a different background and I find it very interesting! So I got inspired and would like to share what’s worked for me. I am NO expert but when I first started blogging almost a year ago, I wished there was someone out there who could give me real tips on how to do it. So every month I’ll try to share little tips and tricks I’ve learned and help you grow.

For starters let me say that its not as glamorous as it seems! Your job as a fashion blogger is to inspire people, to show them how to style current trends and to make it seem effortless. When there’s nothing effortless about it. Truth is, I always end up changing in my car in between shoots, I put myself out there every single day and reach out to others and I will spend a considerable amount of time taking the perfect photo with the right angle and light in the hope to inspire others. But even after that, when it comes to Instagram we all use apps and tricks to enhance our photos, so these are the ones I use:

EDITING

 • PicsArt: I love it! Easy to use and somehow at the end of editing, the quality of your photo magically improves. I use this one a lot. Then..
 • Facetune: I use this one to whiten photos, I hate it when I have white details in my photo and they came out yellow. So use the whiten brush. Also you can smooth skin which makes it look a little more professional. DO NOT OVER DO IT. You don’t want to look fake and honestly, perfect is boring so just use it only when necessary.
 • VSCO: I use this one to plan my future Instagram posts. If you go to library, they have the same layout as Instagram so it makes it easier for me to see if my next photo will go with the aesthetic of my feed.
 • Retouch: I use this one a lot because I shoot in dirty LA all the time and no matter how careful you are, when going through photos I always end up seeing dark spots on the ground and it bothers me like you wouldn’t believe. So I use clone stamp and brush to clean it up or clone any part of the wall that gives me trouble.

And yes I do this with almost every single photo on my feed.

ENGAGEMENT

But that is not enough. Posting a pretty photo is just step one. You need to have real engagement with your followers. Don’t be lazy, if people take the time to write a comment on your photo (blog or social media accounts) then show appreciation and answer them. I get busy and sometimes I’ll take a while to reply but I try to do it as much as I can. Also don’t just say ”Aw Cute” and expect people to care. If you are leaving a comment, say something real and show your personality! Its an opportunity to show them who yo are. Remember, people can always tell when you’re being fake so go for real engagement. Another thing I’ve learned is that you shouldn’t be afraid to ask people questions! If I like the way someone edited their blog post or have a photography question, I’ll email them and in a respectful and honest way, I will compliment their work and ask any questions I may have. Most of the time people get back to me and are truly happy to see that their work and effort is not going unnoticed, so don’t be shy.

NETWORKING

Everyone and I do mean everyone should care about this. But specially if you’re starting out because you should definitely reach out to local bloggers around you, again don’t be shy! Thats the first thing I did. Go to events in your community and when you do, don’t spend the entire time in a corner staring at your phone, TALK to people. I’ve met some of my best friends this way; you need to get your name out there. Hey, Im an introvert so trust me I know how hard and intimidating it can be, BUT once you start it becomes so much easier! Now I don’t even think about it. I love meeting new and talented people, it inspires me.

Quick story…. I remember the first time I attended an event by myself. It was Create and Cultivate last year. I was supposed to go with a blogger friend and in the end she couldn’t make it. Did I miss the event?? NO. I had only been blogging for 3 months, was under 500 followers on Instagram and still figuring things out. But I decided I wanted to meet people that were doing the same thing I was doing, so I didn’t get intimidated and went. I mean I was still a little nervous because it was a huge event and there were some serious bloggers there. But to my surprise, from the moment I parked and started walking over I had already met 4 bloggers, easy as that. And as the day went on I got so many business cards (of course I followed up), met so many interesting people and got to meet my favorites like Aimee Song from Song Of Style, Julia Engel from Gal Meets Glam and Devon from Devon Rachel. They gave me some of the best advise I’ve ever gotten and it was nice to find out that they were some of the nicest and most down to earth women I’ve ever met.

It’s still January, the beginning of the year so get out your calendars and mark down every single event you can find! Trust me its the best way to connect with people so you dont want to miss out.

Hi everyone,

Lately I’ve been hopping from roof top to roof top collecting city views and this past weekend I found the best spot! Perch is a gorgeous restaurant/bar in the heart of LA with cascading greens framing the city’s view, its cool decor and delicious brunch its the perfect way to start your Saturday! This is why I love exploring LA because I always find new places to see and new things to do and this week’s choice was just what I needed!

I had brunch here with blogger and partner in crime Little Black Shell this past weekend, after having a busy morning she suggested we tried this new place and I am so glad we did! Food was delicious, the ambiance was casual but chic and we absolutely loved the view! I also hear that this lounge is even better at night so Im definitely coming back! If you’re looking to catch up with a friend, have visiting friends or family or are just looking to have some relax time while still in the city, I would definitely recommend you visit this place! Simply Stylist

Hi Everyone!

Last week I mentioned the Simply Stylist Event and it finally came! Was anyone able to attend? For those of you who don’t know about it, Simply Stylist is a Beauty and Blogger Conference held to guide women turn their passion into a successful career. The conference took place at The Grove LA this past weekend and it was a day of learning, networking, pampering and enjoying delicious cocktails on a warm sunny Saturday.

All these events I’ve been going to have meant so much to me. The knowledge I get from them not only takes me closer to my goals but on a personal level it has given me a stronger sense of self, of who I am, what I like and the drive to go get it. I must admit Im not very extroverted and its not easy putting your self out there, but its been so rewarding that now I couldn’t imagine not doing it. So I encourage you to go out and meet people, it doesn’t have to be a huge event because trust me as soon as you start connecting with others, it will set the ball rolling and soon you’ll have trouble keeping up with all the events you’ll hear about and people you’ve met. The blogging community is very friendly, supportive and genuinely rooting for you to succeed so go out there and make the most of it;)

The next Simply Stylist Conference is in Chicago July 18th and there will be another one in NYC for Fall, you can find more information Here. I fully recommend it, so if you’re in the area you should definitely go. Its a great learning experience and you get to support one another, which I have to say is kind of the best part! Love making new friends;) But if any one you have attended please comment below, I love would love to know how you liked it. Hope you have a great day!

Create Cultivate + Meeting Song of Style, Julia Hengel & Devon Rachel

Hi Everyone,

I want to share with you the contents of my weekend at Create Cultivate Event. First of all for all of you who don’t know who they are, Create Cultivate is a summit for Fashion, Design and Business Entrepreneurs to share and inspire through conferences across the country. It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet talented and amazing people in the industry and truly learn from the best! The event took place at Culver City’s Art District where we got to hear from key note speakers such as Song of Style, Julianne Hough, The Fat Jewish, Julia Hengel, Devon Rachel, Peace Love Shea, Whitney Port, Eat Sleep Wear and so many more! Bloggers from all over came together this saturday to support one another and have a great time! I cant even begin to explain how happy I am that I attended because what I took from this event will stay with me forever.

This event was intended for everyone seeking a creative outlet to learn and get inspired no matter their level of success, age or whether they were looking to start a business or continue to grow their successful careers. And thats exactly what was so great about it! We all came together to learn not only from our mentors and guest speakers but from each other. At one point I found myself sitting next to a woman who had over 600,000 followers on Instagram and another one who run two successful businesses and was only in her mid 30’s and of course there I was, a new blogger trying to learn the way it all works and I thought how wonderful that not for a second did I ever feel out of place or unwelcome. This is everything that I love about blogging, how close this community really is. About 80% of the people went by themselves, myself included and it was amazing how by the end of it, everyone was talking to each other as if they’d known them forever.

The panels that I loved the most were the ones with Whitney Port, Julianne Hough and The Fat Jewish they had me laughing so hard! Song of Style was also amazing. I was surprised to learn how hard she really worked to get to where she is today. Still a college student, working a full time job and making all the sacrifices to build her blog, it takes so much focus and dedication but clearly it payed off;) My absolute favorite though was meeting Devon Rachel. She was one of my mentors at the event and I cant begin to express how nice and helpful she was. Every question she was asked she answered in great detail and with such honesty! She was very encouraging and was not afraid to give us actual tips and advise, as opposed to the generic answers you always get. I am so grateful I was able to get into her group because I took so much from her. It is always wonderful when someone you look up to turns out to be so down to earth and lovely as she was. I simply had the best time and 100% recommend this event! Here are some photos I took…

Louis Vuitton Series 2

This month I’ve been checking out the art scene in LA to keep my inspiration going. And this weekend’s choice was the Louis Vuitton Series 2 Exhibit, it was hands down my favorite one so far! My blogger friend Karen is usually just as excited as I am to check out new places, so we decided to check it out. The exhibition consisted of several rooms that represented the Past, Future and Present collections of the house of Louis Vuitton and each one was incredible!

Going in, the first thing you see is the LV logo in 3D followed by a room with hologram images in large scale (I posted a video below) which was insane! The exhibit also had a pure white room where everything from the mannequins to the floors and walls was blended in continuos light. This room was dedicated mainly to accessories so every piece stood out beautifully. But my absolute favorite part was the Infinite Room which showcased the Spring 2015 runway show in a 360º degree mirrored room. I have to admit I was in awe with the level of creativity that was put into this exhibition, it was very inspiring. If you are in the area and you have a love for Fashion and Art, then you must pay a visit. Trust me its worth it! I posted the dates and the address below;) There’s a couple more events I’ll be going to in the next few weeks so follow along for more;)

Leather Workshop

Hi Everyone!

A few weeks ago I came across a brand called Toni, they have beautiful leather goods (I especially love their clutches) and they are based here in LA. As I was going through their Instagram account I noticed something exciting… they did workshops! As you may know by now, Im constantly looking for new things to do and I’ve never worked with leather before so of course I signed up right away.

The workshop took place yesterday at Clark & Madison pop up shop in LA who they had partnered with for the event. I went with my friend Karen and as usual we were the first ones there, my excitement cant ever be controlled. As soon as we walk in the door Toni walks right up to us and greets us by name, we’ve never met before so it took me of guard but I felt it was such a nice gesture! for her to know each and every person attending her class made me feel very welcomed and got me eager to get started. While we waited for others to arrive we decided to explore the store and being a Fashion Merchandising student I was in love with their visual displays. Clark and Madison describe their brand as Adventure in Style and it really is! Displays went from a beautifully handcrafted hammock to a teepee tent in the back and so many unique and interesting items in between that I was floating on inspiration. Soon more people began to show up so we went up the stairs to a little area overlooking the store where the workshop took place. They had a large table across the room with all the materials ready for each person to use and an area with food and beverages, which I was very grateful for. Everyone had their own vegetable tan leather belt to work with and we where given two options, we could either learn how to dye the leather or learn how to hand stitch beautiful and intricate details into the belt. I’ve always been fascinated by the process of dye so I went for that one. First we did all the measurements, used special tools to cut the leather, marked down where the belt holes would go and detailed the leather along the edges to give it a nice finish. Toni had several colors we could choose from and they were all gorgeous tones, especially the sand one but I went with tan, its more my style. The whole process of dyeing was so much fun! And everyone had the best attitude, we were all laughing and getting to know each other while trying not to mess up but Toni was very helpful. The whole time she was going one by one making sure we were on the right track with the type of look we had envisioned for each of our belts and would help us make tweaks here and there so they all turned out really good. We let them dry, added the buckle and we had our belt! Looking at the end result I couldn’t believe I had just made that, it was really beautiful.

I have to say, this was such a great workshop! I had the best time, met really cool people and learned so much. I had always been interested in working with leather, now I can say that I have and I have my beautiful belt to prove it;) For anyone out there who is interested in taking a class I fully recommend it, Toni is amazing so you’ll learn a lot from her. Personally I cant wait for her next workshop! For now here are the photos I took yesterday…
