I can’t believe Summer is basically over! I’ve been waiting for this for a long time, partly because I don’t have ac in my home and partly because I miss wearing my beautiful boot collection (can’t help it, sorry). But now that its around the corner, I figured I would welcome the new season with a “Sail Away With Me”.. to Fall-post.
I’ve been reflecting about how time keeps going by so fast and thinking about how many steps we’ve actually taken to move forward with our dreams. It’s easy to get distracted with life, I know I’ve been there a few times! But I don’t want to lose focus, I want to always keep moving forward. A new season always brings a fresh start and we should make the most of it, right? However, if you’re not feeling the drive think about how much your life can change in a year. For example, when I thought about how much mine has changed from exactly a year ago, I felt unbelievably happy! Not because everything went by so smoothly, on the contrary.. I made big life decisions about where I wanted to live, had some health issues to deal with, then had personal decisions involving my family, but then more happy things came along! For instance I had to get serious about how far I wanted to take this blog, which to me was very exciting. Also a guy with the kindest heart came into my life, he later became my boyfriend and is now someone I love very very much. I look at this entire year and I can’t help but feel very grateful, for the good things and the bad! All of this in one little year so think about the possibilities if we only focus and work towards what we want, the rest always find its way:)
So whether it’s a new challenge or an exciting new path for the blog, I want to welcome all change I want to make the most out of what’s left of this year and it will be okay because I will be wearing a beautiful hat on my head to keep me grounded and beautiful boots to take me where I want to go, all in style of course! A girl has to look nice even when she’s busy. Now, my wardrobe won’t change dramatically next week because lets face it.. I live in sunny So Cal. But in the coming posts I will be talking about transition looks, the must-have items for Fall, more blogging tips and many more fun things! So follow along..
To welcome Fall season I decided to wear a white jacket and my favorite brown leather booties. I like pairing these with white shorts to balance out the look, I think it keeps it more casual and adding a straw hat makes it more fun!
Denim and a white Tee is the definition of effortlessly cool. It’s a classic that has survived over decades and decades of fashion trends and that I believe will continue to be part of our wardrobe for many more years to come! The key to this look is to find the perfect fit in your denim and my go to of course is Levi’s. No matter what body type you have this iconic brand has most likely made the right fit for you, you just have to hunt a little but that’s the fun part! Next is to find the right Tee to pair it with, I like my T-shirts as soft as they can be and not too baggy. My absolute favorites come from this brand called AMVI, they are vintage inspired high quality basics and let me tell you I love them!! I first found out about them when I first started blogging last year, they sent me a couple of their basics to try out and I became obsessed. I even bought my boyfriend a couple because they are so comfy to wear, the quality is so good and that is 100% my true feelings about the brand. Of course you can pair it with any white Tee you know and love:) The point is get the right fit for you.
I am wearing the high-waisted, straight leg with classic wash and raw hem Levi’s. I specially loved that last part because the raw edges make it more interesting! And since I was going with the classics, I could not forget my favorite Raybans as well. You’ve seen me wear these way too many times but I cannot get over them, sorry!
With this Summer heat I try to make the most out of wearing dresses. It’s so much easier to slip on a dress and head out the door than to style a whole jeans, or short and top combo am I right? Besides, sooner than we think Fall will be here and it will be all about layering. So for a while now I’ve been obsessed with midi length everything! Whether its dresses or skirts, I feel like it’s the most flattering look and so easy to wear. The midi is the dressier version of the maxi dress, which I also love and will be posting about soon! But the trick to this style is to wear it with heels so it helps balance out the height issue. If you are short wear it with very delicate scrappy heels, if you’re tall you can get away with a chunkier heel like mine. Take a look!
Whichever way you decide to style it, I am a firm believer that this is your best friend this Summer! You can see me wear the midi style in previous posts like Here and Here. As you can tell, I’m a fan <3 What about you guys, what are your style go to’s this Season? I would love to know.
This Summer I’ve been loving belts, I have them in every color! But last week I found this beautiful white leather one at Planet Blue’s new Newport Beach location and I had to have it! I love the black and brown belts but this one caught my eye because of how thin it is, therefore the double buckles don’t make me feel too chunky. Personally I’m a firm believer that accessorising your outfit is the key to make it interesting and doing it with belts can make it a lot more fun! Honestly, its things like this that can make an outfit go from simple to stylish. So whether it’s a romper, dress or your favorite jeans, a belt will always go perfect with it!
I paired it with all black because I love the contrast but feel free to mix it up! A white belt will pretty much go with everything. But if you’re not feeling the white, at the bottom I’ve shared some of my favorite belts of the season <3 Take a look..
I also wanted to share that I have a found a great photographer to work with! 🙂 To me it is extremely important to feel comfortable with the person I shoot so I feel very happy to have met such a kind and driven person:) All these photos were taken by Ryan, check him out! Ryan Chua
Summer is always the most awaited season! Specially here living in SoCal, people tend to gather more often since its so nice out and life just gets more fun. I really love it, but I also find myself missing my favourite little black dresses. There’s just something about Summer that makes me feels like the LBD is not quite right. But what about last-minute events, drinks with the girls or date night with your guy! I never realised how much I relied on it. So I did a little hunt and I have found the perfect summer version! It has cap sleeves and open fishnet insets to accent the waist line, but the thing I loved the most was the crew neckline. Honestly, the last thing you want it is a low neckline when the dress is already short, so this was exactly was I was looking for!
I also love the mix of fabrics on this dress, I think it makes it more fun! I paired it with nude stilettos, wore my hair wavy for effect and I’m ready for a fun evening out <3
It’s been a while since I’ve shared some tips and resources I use on my blog, so I thought I decided I would dedicate this week’s post to just that!
Tools for your Blog: Creative Market. I use this website for their Fonts, I LOVE them! They are really easy to install and are not expensive. They also have Themes, Graphics and Plug-ins. They have it all! By the way.. the font I use for my “XO ERIKA”at the bottom of my blog posts was bought from this site. I usually pay $8 per font, this one was $16 but I also used it for my business cards and pretty much everything else so it was worth it! Here’s the link if you want to check it out.
Tracking your Social Media: Iconosquare. Some of you might have heard of this site before and yes its just as great as they say! You can use it to track your Instagram statistics. From your hashtags, the best times a day to post, your engagement, it basically gives you full control. It’s a great tool to use whether you needed it for personal reasons or business like creating your Media Kit. They have a 7-day free trial so I would recommend you check it out to see if it’s a right match for your needs.
Improve your mind with Books: This is a great way to stay motivated! And you should never stop learning so I’m sharing some of the authors I love: –Malcolm Gladwell is my favourite right now! I read Outliers: The Story of Success and loved it. He talks about the pattern behind brilliant software billionaires, athletes, musicians and how their backgrounds, family and culture led them to be successful in each of their industries. After reading it I immediately bought The Tipping Point. Now this one talks about how some trends, ideas and social behaviours can sky-rocket and explains the reasons behind this sudden success. Both books are really helpful for anyone! But they have really helped me understand this Blogging/Fashion Industry. I highly recommend them! –Garance Doré brings you a candid view on her career as one of the first bloggers out there. In Love Style Life she shares stories on life, style and truth behind the fashion industry. It’s not a Pulitzer winning book by any means, it’s a fun book read. BUT what I truly loved about it her witty unapologetic style of writing. She is brutally honest, she’s not full of herself (like 90% of the books in this category are) and has truly impeccable style. A true gem in this industry. I read this book on my last vacation and fell in love with her journey.
Links: Bitly I rely on this website all the time! If there is something I hate seeing is long endless links on profiles. And with Bitly you can easily shorten your links for any platform. They also provide measure and optimization services on your audience and marketing strategies. But I mostly use it for links.
Engage with your Readers:ConvertKit . This is the only one I havent fully tried. But now that I’m thinking of jumping on email lists I am dying to put this website to work! I have done a lot of reasearch and this one seems to be the best fit. From what I’ve seen so far its pretty easy to use and holds the reputation for the best marketing service out there. But what really did it for me was that it was created by a Bloggerfor Bloggers.
This year is flying by! I can’t believe it’s almost May, right?! Spring just brings a lot of work to my week, so with a full agenda it’s really easy to feel overwhelmed. I mean don’t get me wrong, I love what I do but its a lot of work! So I realised that by implementing these 4 key habits I am able to get things done much faster:
Make Friday your Plan Day: Monday’s are universally hated. That’s a fact. Well then it makes sense to end your Friday’s day work with a list of next week’s To-Do List by prioritizing what will help me move my career/business forward. Why? Because that way even when you have an unbelievably busy schedule, by making next week’s list you’ll have one less thing to worry about at the end of each day and more importantly you will be able to enjoy your weekend without dreading Monday (as much). This brings me to step #2…
Tackle the hardest thing on your list first: Okay so Monday comes and everyday I have my to-do lists. But still, seeing a long list might make you feel stressed, so what I do is I tackle the most tedious and/or most important thing first. Why? Because I’ve realised that by doing this it gives me a sense of accomplishment. I feel the weight come off my shoulders therefore I’m more motivated and the rest of my list doesn’t seem as hard.
Boomerang for Gmail: This is a LIFE SAVER. It works for scheduling your emails. No matter in what industry you’re in, we all get tons of important emails everyday. Now, my biggest nightmare is when I forget to email back during work hours or worse to follow-up! So with Boomerang, you write an email and it gives you options like Send Now or Schedule For Later or you can also set it up to remind you to follow-up in “x” mount of days/weeks if you don’t hear back. Amazing right?! That way I can answer emails at the end of my day and schedule to have them send first thing in the morning! And just like that my morning starts way less stressful aaand helps out with step #4 (keep reading)..
Exercising M-F: I know what you’re thinking WHEN do you find the time to work out during the week? Why not go the weekend instead?? Well let me tell you.. if you make the effort to get up extra early and make it to the gym, the rest of the day you will feel way more energized! You feel more motivated and trust me your attitude dramatically changes. Exercising during the week is the main reason why successful people get every single task done that day. Think about it, the endorphins you realise when exercising keep you focused and driven all day so you see.. the week is WHEN you need that extra push, keep the weekend for other fun activities or hell sleep in! You deserve it Girl Boss! Dont believe me? Try it <3
What I wore:
White Halter dress from Zara | Espadrille Wedges from Forever21 | Sunnies from Ray-Ban
These 4 habits have completely changed my outlook of the day ahead of me. You should start your week eager to keep growing and chasing your goals, not dreading your day’s work! So try them out and let me know what you think! And if you have any suggestions or things you do to better your days please share them below, I’d love to know!
This past month I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how I started blogging. Old friends and some readers who are thinking about starting a blog have been asking for my advice. Back in January I wrote Fashion Blogging: Tips, Tricks and The Truth Behind It to share a little of what I’ve learned this past year and a few tricks on how I edit my photos on IG. But this time I want to focus more on the main 5 things I’ve learned that I wish I had known back then. It’s a little long but I wanted to be thorough so bear it with me…
Collaborating with Brands: In the beginning I was so excited when brands contacted me for a collab that I wouldn’t really ask any questions or define how many photos I should post, on how many social media platforms or the time frame to post them. BIG MISTAKE. It’s okay to get excited, people are starting to take you seriously so good for you! Now, lets talk business. Blogging is actual work, it takes time to plan a shoot, get someone to take the photos for you, edit, write the post, promote etc. So you need to remind the brand of this and talk about it in detail. In the beginning you are still figuring things out, you are creating a name for yourself and growing your following, so it’s completely normal to collab (accepting product for free in exchange for an IG post). But I’ve had so many brands trying to add extra work for me after they’ve delivered and who’s fault is that? Mine for not asking questions first. So look out. Make sure that you address these things in the first or second email to make sure the compensation is worth it for you. In my case, when I first started my blog, I was happy with collaborating because I needed the content and when the brand reposted me its exposure for my blog! As I started growing as a blogger though my terms started to change, for example: if they asked to be featured in other platforms such as Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and/or website, that I charged for. You are taking the time to promote and deliver high quality content so you deserve compensation. It’s important to be clear about these terms so you won’t get taken advantage of.
Collaborating with Photographers: When doing collabs it’s really important to define the exact terms you both want to work in. You need to define how many photos you will get per look, that way you make sure you have enough content. The max time it should take to get back the photos from him/her so its fair for both parties. Also discuss editing; some photographers won’t allow you to edit/crop any of their photos and this is something I’ve had issues with because as a blogger I need to make sure my feed on Instagram looks consistent so I need to fix light accordingly. Then again some photographers won’t mind, but its best to talk about it prior to the shoot. And the last thing is talking about photo rights. Sometimes you might sign a contract with the photographer to make sure what use both parties can have on the photos and that both are credited for their work. I’ve learned that its really important to discuss these things in-depth before agreeing to work together so there’s no surprises in the end.
Collaborating with Hair/Makeup Artists: Sort of the same goes for HMUA. Discuss the look you are going for in-depth. Sometimes people don’t take into account the look you carry on your photos and try to do their own style when its you thats going to be on the photo.. it needs to look like you right?? Well discuss that. Wether you wear heavy makeup or like a more natural look, fake eye lashes.. yes or no, wear your hair up, down, wavy, straight.. You get the point. Make sure you are both on the same page. I once did a shoot where we were behind on schedule so the HMUA did it really fast and I wasn’t happy with it, but we were running out of day light so I went for it. And of course I ended up not liking and using the photos, I regretted not discussing these things before. The HMUA was very talented, the fault was mine for speaking up before. So never assume that people will pay attention to your style, you need to tell them so you’re happy with the result.
Don’t post just to post: I used to put all my attention on the photoshoots and then I would type something really fast the morning I was posting and not get any feedback. Why? Because it all matters. High quality photos are just as important as editing and both are equally important to the writing process. What is the point of taking beautiful photos if you have nothing interesting to say? No one will see them and your work will have been for nothing. I now plan ahead the topics of my posts so I have quality content and not post just to post. Same goes with photos though. If you are consistent with your posts (which you should be) and something came up so you couldn’t get a photo for that day don’t just post a bad quality photo or some filler one that doesn’t go with your niche just to post. It will only hurt you in the long run. You need to sit down and write a schedule for your blog: When are you shooting, what you have to say about it, what makes you blog interesting, how many times a week are going to post and how many hours is this all going to take. Staying organised is the only real way to grow.
Link Link Link. Now that you have landed your dream collaboration, you have worked out the details and gotten the beautiful photos, as you sit writing your post remember to link your look!! If people follow you it’s because they like your style so make it easy for them and add the links of what you are wearing. If you can’t find it, give them the option of a similar look in case they wish to buy it. The whole reason you blog is to inspire people right? So help them get the look! Same for your social media platforms, tag the brands, use their hashtags, get it out there!! It’s also good for you because you will get more exposure therefore you will gain more traffic to your blog so it’s a win-win situation.
Most of all don’t get discouraged. Blogging takes time so be patient, put in the work and I’m sure things will happen for you! And of course remember to have fun with it <3
What I wore:
Maxi Dress from Love Stitch | Braided Faux Leather Sandals from Forever21| Tassel Faux Leather Crossbody Bag from Forever21| Bird And Filigree Ring Setfrom Forever 21
I hope you found this post helpful! I will be posting more on my experience as a blogger and a few other things I’ve learned along the way so stay tuned! Also feel free to leave a comment below on any questions you may have, I’ll be more than happy to help.
I can’t wait to show you a few new projects I’ve worked for this month. I’ve had the luck to work with very talented people and am planning a few special posts to share them!
Now, for this blog post I wanted to restyle a white midi pantsuit I’ve worn before. Its easy to believe you can’t repeat an outfit once you’ve worn it BUT Im here to tell you that is so untrue! I added a cream & gold jacket, crocodile printed heels, accessorised with a different bag and I have a new look! By adding different accessories you can refresh a look that you’ve worn before and make it brand new again. Let me know what you think…

Sorry for the lack of posts this month. I’ve been doing a lot of photoshoots but haven’t had the time to post them. Im currently trying to get back on track but I’ve been so busy! Im also feeling much better so no more visits to the hospital, Im very happy about that <3 I have a few trips planned for the holidays and lots of fun shoots to show you, so follow along to see the best outfits for this season.
I’ve decided to start with a more formal look. This season usually brings more dinner parties and events so this is a sophisticated yet fun way to put an outfit together. I chose a black romper with a deep V neck line, with overlaying front panels and a back cutout. Its sexy and fun but the clean cut lines and its simplistic look keep it formal enough for any event! With a formal look you want to go with simple accessories, so if you wear red lips and pair it with a delicate pendant you can’t go wrong..
