Healthy Eating! The CRATEFUL Experience

Wander With Love Crateful

If you follow my Instagram Stories you probably watched my daily updates on the Crateful meals a little while back. If you didn’t keep reading! You see, healthy eating is always one of my top priorities and specially with the new year so when the opportunity came to try a food delivery service, I jumped at it! I had read good reviews about Crateful before and I’ve never tried this type of meal service so I thought it would be interesting to see for myself. You can find more about them here.

In full disclosure I did not pay for this service, I was offered to try it for free but everything I share in this blog is ALWAYS MY REAL OPINION. I kept a daily journal for the duration of the trial which was from Monday to Friday, so I will share with you exactly what I thought about the experience.

Crateful - Wander With Love- Erika

Day No. 1:

I had just gotten back from a weekend getaway and it was so incredibly nice to come home to a cooler full of meals for the day! Actually, any day of the week it would be a nice treat but whenever I travel I don’t really follow my normal diet. I’m all about French fries and burgers by the pool and maybe a cocktail or too (it’s vacay mode right?) so to have all these delicious and healthy meals ready to eat was a real pleasure! Okay, let’s talk about the menus:

breakfast

Thoughts: First impression on portions is that they were very good. Breakfast and Lunch were plenty to make me feel full. And as far as taste I have zero complains, it was really delicious! I was expecting very tiny portions but they were generous so I was gladly mistaken. And as for dinner, it was a slightly smaller portion but I did have dessert with it, so I get its and again I was satisfied. Every single meal was great!

Day No. 2: day 2

THOUGHTS: Breakfast this time was smaller, I felt like it needed to be a little bigger to keep me full. The flavor was not what I know to be ACAI, it tasted more like cool oats which hey I love, it’s just wasn’t the taste I was expecting. I did however enjoy it very much! The lunch and dinner were just as mouthwatering as they looked. These portions were very generous so I has happy and the dessert… well let’s just say I didn’t even consider sharing a bite, I loved it.

Healthy Meal - Wander With Love - LA Blogger

THOUGHTS: This and the first day were my favorite meals without a doubt! I can honestly say that portions on everything was perfect. Flavor left nothing to be desired and after 3 days of coming home to ready to eat meals, I was in food heaven! I seriously started feeling that I could get used to this.

Day NO. 4:DAY4

CRATEFUL Erikadvm

THOUGHTS: Breakfast this day was very good in flavour but I did feel like it would have been nice to have a little something else with the meal, maybe a side of potatoes to keep me fuller. It wasn’t a big deal, I had a piece of toast with it and was fine. As far as lunch, I’m still craving that risotto with beef because it was delicious. About dinner, the Veal loin roulade was okay, not bad and not great. I was indifferent to the taste, the portion was satisfying but it just wasn’t what the other meals had been. I thought the meat was kind of hard, maybe it was the way I heated it, but also the flavor was a bit off. The dessert was just as good as everyday!

Day NO. 5:day5Healthy Eating Wander With Loveeatcrateful.com | @eat_crateful

THOUGHTS:  I’ve been enjoying the fact that Crateful includes fruit in my breakfast, it makes me feel like I am getting a healthy meal every time, which was one of the biggest selling points for me when I decided to try Crateful. Moving on to lunch, I completely forgot to mention on the Restrictions section that I don’t eat pork. I mean I’ll have bacon every now and then, but in any other form I never eat it because I don’t like the taste. So with lunch being green pork chili, I wasn’t able to taste it. And I was so bummed because it looked amazing! That green sauce was calling my name but I just don’t eat pork and that was my fault so I had someone else eat it. I can however talk about dinner and that I did enjoy! The whole week I felt like I was eating pretty healthy without sacrificing flavor and this last day was no different.

Final Thoughts:

I fully enjoyed this food service. The meals were promptly delivered every single day to my door and the food was properly packed with more than enough ice packs preserving everything for up to 24hrs in the ice cooler, so I never worried there. And I have to say it was truly great to have 3 daily meals (plus dessert) delivered to my door that where healthy and overall satisfying. I truly enjoyed this food delivery service!

Going into this I was also trying to focus beyond the convenience of it. I mean of course that part is a big selling point but I also wanted to see for myself if I could truly enjoy the meals everyday and feel like I was eating healthy. And the truth is I did! I mean I didn’t love 100% of the meals, I know the Thursday meals weren’t my favorite but whatever I found missing I am sure I could better customise on the following order. Honestly there were far more good things throughout this experience than bad. If anything, cost would be something I would focus on more to make sure it would be worth it for my needs. As well as working with my difficult schedule.

Now on this last point I did have an issue because my schedule changes every single week. Whether I have photoshoots, blogger brunches, meetings or events to attend, I am constantly driving far to get to them. No week is the same for me, there are weeks where I drive to LA every single day, there are others where I only drive 2-3 times a week and some where I handle everything from OC. With a schedule that is always changing like mine, I realized I could not commit to a meal plan delivery service and I feel like I would end up spending more money in the end because of it. So even though I really liked their services I guess it wouldn’t work for me right now. I always encourage my readers to try things for themselves so if you do, I would love to hear your experience!

I hope you found this helpful!

And as always thank you for reading,

Update: My Skin Care Routine!

I have shared some of my favorite skin care products before, but since then I have found other ones that work great for me so I thought it was time for an update! I have combination skin and depending on the seasons I sometimes get really tiny bumps on my the sides of my face. I usually let it run its course, until now! And you will never guess where I found this miracle worker…

But first, this isn’t a sponsored post. Not to say that if it was, this wouldn’t be my real opinion. I am just excited I found products that actually work for me, so keep reading if you want to find out why <3

  • First a couple of products that I rely on every week. I don’t use these daily but definitely game changers on my skin care routine:

Skin Authority - Wander With Love - LA Blogger

1. Skin Authority Acne & Oil Control. This is the first product I try from them. It helps with acne cause bacteria and minimize oil. I get some acne around my cheeks, not crazy bad but I decided to try it! After 3 months of using it, I am convinced this is what helped my skin look much healthier. I don’t use it daily, I started with 3-4 times a week at first and now only once a week and that has been enough. My face has really cleared up and I am now much happier! I wouldn’t be writing about it if I wasn’t <3  I would encourage you to look into this brand, talking to one of their representatives like I did and find out about your specific needs.

2. SK-II Facial Treatment Essence.  I first tried SK-II after receiving it in one of my goodie bags at a blogger event. I was very curious to see for myself and I am so glad I did! My skin looks more radiant, I can see the tone is more even and even a bit more firm. I honestly had my doubts about it but now it’s part of my routine. The only thing I don’t like is that it costs more than I care to spend on a beauty product but to me it does work so I will continue to use it. wander with love

MY DAILY ROUTINE:

1. First Aid Face Cleanser w/ Antioxidant Booster. This product is very very gentle on my skin but it gets rid of all the dirt and any makeup residue left from my makeup remover. I have been using it for over a year now and it’s still my No.1 cleanser.

2. Plantioxidants Power Seed Menagerie Oil. I use this product daily and have been using it for 4 months now. I am beyond in love with it!! Like I said I have combiantion skin so I was scared of trying any oil but ever since I started using it my skin went from dull to radiant, fresh and hydrated. TRULY ONE OF MY FAVORITES!!

 3. First Aid Eye Duty Triple Remedy AM Gel Cream. I know I mentioned this brand above but again this isn’t a sponsored post, just products that I’ve been loving so I wanted to share. Anyways, this eye cream has made the skin around my eyes look much more illuminated and hydrated so I use it every day. Also it’s light weight so it doesn’t mess up my makeup afterward. I have been using this product for almost a year now and I am very happy with it!

4. Eucerin Baby ECZEMA RELIEF Body Creme. I use it for my Face, neck and chest area. Okay I realize I don’t have ECZEMA and that it’s a baby product BUT somehow this cream helped me get rid of the tiny little bumps I was talking about earlier. I don’t think it’s acne but it shows up from time to time depending on the seasons (very annoying). My mom has actually used this brand for years and I’ve had a good experience with their other products in the past, so I decided to try it.

I have been using it daily and I swear after day 1 results were immediately there. I couldn’t believe it! I don’t know how but this product gave my face a smoother look and feel and it’s crazy to think I found it at my local supermarket. After spending so much money on products that never worked, I finally got rid of this problem so I had to tell you guys!! Plus even though this product is rich, it does not feel pasty or oily. My skin feels moisturized and so healthy! It’s now a favorite in my drawer.

5. As far as Sunscreen depending on the sun exposure I will be under that day, I still use my Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face & Body Stick SPF 70 (which I posted about before) and I have recently been using the IT Cosmetics CC Cream SPF50 plus the powder for touch ups from IT Cosmetics as well, in shade Medium Tan. IN LOVE WITH THESE 3!!

MY NIGHT CARE ROUTINE:

I use the same face cleanser I mentioned above and then…

1. 100% Pure Multi-Vitamin + Antioxidants Potent PM Serum. I cannot say enough good things about this brand! I love it all! From their makeup products like their lipsticks (MY CURRENT FAVORITES) to their skin care products, I am obsessed. They are commited to creating the purest products and the results have been clear to me! Truly one of the best brands I discovered this year.

100% PURE ERIKADVM - WANDER WITH LOVE

2. ESTÉE LAUDER Advanced Night Repair Eye Synchronized Complex II. On the contrary from my day eye cream, I love how rich this product is! When it comes to night time creams I feel like heavier ones are better for my skin. And I love the results I get from this one. It’s on the more expensive side for such a small container, but I personally feel like it’s been worth it. That said, I always encourage you to try for yourself! Maybe ask for a sample and see if this is right for you.

ESTEE LAUDER LA BLOGGER - BEAUTY ROUTINE

3. For moisturizer I have recently been using Eucerin Baby ECZEMA Relief Body Creme mentioned above since its been working so well on my skin, but for the past 7 months I had been using Perricone MD H2 Elemental Energy Hydrating Cloud Cream. It’s been so amazing on my skin that I still carry it everywhere I go. I will continue to use it and begin going back and forth between both.

These are all products that I have come to love. I believe in every one of them and I hope they help others too.

As always thank you for stopping by!

Old School For Fall

I’ve been feeling the red sunnies lately and these particular ones are my favorites! They’re from a brand I just discovered called Perverse, they have the cutest eyewear. Sunnies are always a great statement piece and when I got this polka dot dress on my birthday, I knew both would go great together. I just had so much fun wearing this look!

The fabric is on the heavier side which I love because it has a nice effect when I walk or turn. But I felt like it had a dressier look than I wanted, so I paired it with my favorite white shoes to keep things casual and wore it down the street to meet my girls for the day! Grabbed some coffee, we went shopping and had a fun time together. Sometimes a nice belted long dress is all a girl needs <3

Fitness & Health this Summer!

Summer is finally here!! I just celebrated Summer Solstice with an amazing group of women + RedBull this week where we took a Terrarium class, a Social Media workshop and even an Affirmation workshop. It was so much fun!! You can see more details HERE. But it got me thinking of how I am actually getting ready for the new season and panic hit me! Summer is already here and I don’t feel ready, typical right?? I even made a deal with my best friend so that we would meet our health and fitness goals by the month of May and guess what? He did amazing! He lost all the weight he wanted, but more than that he completely changed his diet, looks so fit (PROUD OF HIM!) and I… well let’s just say I fell behind haha. But I’m sure I’m not the only one, so I’m here to tell you it’s Not Too Late!! That’s why I want to share what I’ve been up to this month to keep up, some little tips here and there and hopefully motivate you to get started!

FITNESS

For this time of year I love working out outside! I find that it motivates me more than being indoors so I’ll  go hiking, running at the beach, take a yoga class in the park, even going kayaking with my bestie, anything that keeps me under the sun and I always see better results! There’s something about being surrounded by nature that gives me that extra energy I need. Now, I still take a booty barre class and lift weights at the gym once or twice a week to keep my routine fresh, but for me it’s the outdoor workouts that keep me going.  And now that it’s Summer I intend to make the most of it! But I always make sure I apply sunscreen before leaving the house and bring a hat with me to stay safe. I did a post a while back on my favorites, you can take a look HERE.

EATING HABITS

Since I was very young I was taught that the way we eat matters. It’s not just which foods go better together, but things like taking your time when having a meal, the correct portions for you, to think about how many times you chew your food before you swallow, all these things matter. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I kept count every single time! But the point was to be conscious of the food I was eating so that I would recognise when my body was full instead of stopping only after I began feeling sick. This way I learned to eat 5 times a day, which led me to drink more water throughout the day and in general it helped with my metabolism! This also means I get hungry every few hours, but I always make sure to keep healthy snacks around me and I do keep them EVERYWHERE! In my purses, in my car and I even bring snacks to my boyfriend’s house if I know I’ll be spending the day there. I bring things like almonds, walnuts, mandarins, apples or my favorite is getting a green juice! It makes me feel good knowing that I’m eating all those healthy greens.

TRY SOMETHING NEW

It’s good to have a routine and sticking to it, but every now and then it’s good to mix it up! And one way of keeping yourself motivated is by getting out of your comfort zone and trying that one class you were always curious about. There’s Aerial Yoga for example, this was one I honestly didn’t think I would like and I was surprised at how much fun I had and not to mention what a great workout it is, specially for your core.  Or maybe you can try Pilates this Summer or go Paddle Boarding. Or try something your friends are doing, mine take a Boxing class and say it’s the best workout they’ve ever tried! I however bruise with the slightest touch to my skin so I know that one isn’t for me, but I can’t stop hearing how amazing it is! The point is to challenge yourself to do something different and let me tell you the thrill I get from trying something new, combined with the feeling of accomplishment and strength I get after my workout is beyond anything I’ve ever felt before! It makes me push harder over longer periods of time.

My i.am + BUTTONS Experience

A couple of months ago I got the chance to meet up with will.i.am ‘s team and see all the amazing things his tech company  i.am + is working on, including their latest launch the wireless earphones BUTTONS. And they are amazing! Right away I loved the design and got excited to work together to introduce you guys my new favorite tech + fashion accessory all in one!

Erika Vargas Wander With Love i.m.plus

As a blogger and a woman who loves fashion, I always make sure my style is reflected in everything I wear —I’m saying truly down to the smallest detail! So it makes sense that someone would come up with earbuds that actually look good with your outfit right?? Well here comes BUTTONS to save the day…

Erikadvm BUTTONS Wander With Love

That said, I also spend a lot of time on my phone so even thought I love listening to my favorite songs, it’s not just about the music. I mean a girl has to work right?? And that’s why I truly love these. I can take calls on them too, which comes in handy when I’m running around all day, from shoot to shoot and I have scheduled call meetings in between —to which I never get used to lol (that’s just my personality) but this definitely helps the process go by smoother. Plus, the sound is crisp clear! So it’s a win-win.

All in all I can’t help but love my BUTTONS. And I had the best time shooting with the team. We met up at some of my favorite places in LA, we shot a quick video, took some fun photos and they were all incredibly nice and easy to work with! Which I always appreciate, it made the experience even better. ***Also, I had posted the video we did, but I had some issues with it loading on this page, so I will post it again on a separate one… stay tuned! But I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did and please let me know what you think!

As always thanks so much for reading!

Louise Roe Book Signing at The Grove

Hi Everyone,

I’ve been working on a couple of posts and they will be ready very soon;) But for now I wanted to share an exciting event happening tonight at The Grove in LA. Lifestyle expert Louise Roe is presenting her new book at Barnes & Noble tonight at 7pm. Its very last minute I know but hopefully some of you will be able to make it! I just found out about it today, but I’ll stop by and of course will be adding to this post afterwards to share the experience with everyone who couldn’t make it;)

She will also be in conversation with Catt Sadler, co-host of E! News about personal style and tips on living a happier and more glamorous life. I love attending events and this one in particular sounds really interesting, plus it gives the perfect opportunity to add a new book to my list!

Louise Roe Book Sigining

*The images above are not mine.

For all of you that live in LA I hope you can make it. It seems like its going to be a fun event! See you there!

Okay so this is the Follow Up

“How to be the leading lady in your own life”

First I have to say Louise Roe is the nicest person! She had us all laughing and made the event that much more enjoyable. I thought she was very authentic and its clear she has that passion and motivation to succeed, which I admired very much. We all dream of the future but very few have the courage it takes to go after what you want and it made me think of something my dad always told me.. He said, you can accomplish anything you want in life, as long as you’re whiling to work hard for it;) and she clearly has. Along with Catt Saddler, she talked about her background, from her internship experiences to working for Vogue, to how she came to write a book. But mostly I liked that she talked about how we need to stop being hard on our selves and start celebrating who we are today. How most people think they need to have a skinny model’s body to have great style and how that’s complete ”Rubish” as she put it in that British accent of hers;) And I couldn’t agree more! I believe its important to embrace everything you are and enjoy yourself:) And her book covers that and so much more. She gives tips on preparing for a job interview, on style and even on interior design. This book is timeless and I am very happy I was able to attend. I can’t stop reading it <3
