Fitness & Health this Summer!

Summer is finally here!! I just celebrated Summer Solstice with an amazing group of women + RedBull this week where we took a Terrarium class, a Social Media workshop and even an Affirmation workshop. It was so much fun!! You can see more details HERE. But it got me thinking of how I am actually getting ready for the new season and panic hit me! Summer is already here and I don’t feel ready, typical right?? I even made a deal with my best friend so that we would meet our health and fitness goals by the month of May and guess what? He did amazing! He lost all the weight he wanted, but more than that he completely changed his diet, looks so fit (PROUD OF HIM!) and I… well let’s just say I fell behind haha. But I’m sure I’m not the only one, so I’m here to tell you it’s Not Too Late!! That’s why I want to share what I’ve been up to this month to keep up, some little tips here and there and hopefully motivate you to get started!

FITNESS

For this time of year I love working out outside! I find that it motivates me more than being indoors so I’ll  go hiking, running at the beach, take a yoga class in the park, even going kayaking with my bestie, anything that keeps me under the sun and I always see better results! There’s something about being surrounded by nature that gives me that extra energy I need. Now, I still take a booty barre class and lift weights at the gym once or twice a week to keep my routine fresh, but for me it’s the outdoor workouts that keep me going.  And now that it’s Summer I intend to make the most of it! But I always make sure I apply sunscreen before leaving the house and bring a hat with me to stay safe. I did a post a while back on my favorites, you can take a look HERE.

EATING HABITS

Since I was very young I was taught that the way we eat matters. It’s not just which foods go better together, but things like taking your time when having a meal, the correct portions for you, to think about how many times you chew your food before you swallow, all these things matter. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I kept count every single time! But the point was to be conscious of the food I was eating so that I would recognise when my body was full instead of stopping only after I began feeling sick. This way I learned to eat 5 times a day, which led me to drink more water throughout the day and in general it helped with my metabolism! This also means I get hungry every few hours, but I always make sure to keep healthy snacks around me and I do keep them EVERYWHERE! In my purses, in my car and I even bring snacks to my boyfriend’s house if I know I’ll be spending the day there. I bring things like almonds, walnuts, mandarins, apples or my favorite is getting a green juice! It makes me feel good knowing that I’m eating all those healthy greens.

TRY SOMETHING NEW

It’s good to have a routine and sticking to it, but every now and then it’s good to mix it up! And one way of keeping yourself motivated is by getting out of your comfort zone and trying that one class you were always curious about. There’s Aerial Yoga for example, this was one I honestly didn’t think I would like and I was surprised at how much fun I had and not to mention what a great workout it is, specially for your core.  Or maybe you can try Pilates this Summer or go Paddle Boarding. Or try something your friends are doing, mine take a Boxing class and say it’s the best workout they’ve ever tried! I however bruise with the slightest touch to my skin so I know that one isn’t for me, but I can’t stop hearing how amazing it is! The point is to challenge yourself to do something different and let me tell you the thrill I get from trying something new, combined with the feeling of accomplishment and strength I get after my workout is beyond anything I’ve ever felt before! It makes me push harder over longer periods of time.

Summer Talk: SPF Safe

Now that Summer is here, I find myself going to the beach every single weekend. It’s close to where I live, it’s a great way to spend time with my friends and boyfriend and nothing makes me happier than having my toes in the sand. So whats the problem? Sun damage is the problem. Too much sun can be harmful for your skin, believe me I know! My mother has been scaring me with wrinkle stories from the minute I turned 25. But I am also not willing to compromise my beach time. So this is how I turned into one piece swimsuits and beach cover-ups. It’s the perfect solution! One piece swimsuits are very flattering, they make the body look longer and I always feel more comfortable in them anyways. I have one in every color! And since I don’t want the awkward tan line from the one piece, I have found that a beach cover-up is the way to go! I will still wear bikinis from time to time but I love that I have found the perfect combo for those days where it is too sunny and I want to be safe <3

Now, I have wanted to write about this topic for a long time so for this shoot I hunted down a location that best represented my fears: wrinkles + sun damage. So this is why I picked this rocky scene, its the perfect reminder of how I DO NOT want my skin to look like by the time Im 30! Am I right? So lets get to it.. I put together this look, hope you guys like it!

Beach Look

Now I rarely review products usually stick to fashion but since I am already in the SPF subject, I wanted to include my top suncare products below! *I did NOT get paid to promote any of these products or received them for free to review. This is 100% my honest opinion and I hope you find it useful…

Skin Care

I LOVE this moisturizer because it is the lightest product I have ever tried! Women, believe me when I say I have tried them all and finding a moisturizer that also has SPF was beginning to feel like a nightmare. But Shiseido came to save the day! I use this for everyday life and doesn’t leave my skin greasy, I love it!

wander with loveNeutrogena Face & Body Stick is my favorite of all! I use this one if I know I will be spending more time in the sun. The Ultra Sheer part does not lie!! No more white sunblock spots and no more greasy looks. I also love how easy it is to use therefore I find myself reapplying more often than with liquid ones. I’ve been recommending it for years and have yet to receive a complain:)

Yes to this delicious therapy! I have tried more products from this brand and I have to be honest, I haven’t loved them all BUT their lip balm is perfect! I love the coconut flavour, its unbelievably hydrating and its as natural as it gets! I love this for everyday life, I have one in practically every purse I own.

Weekend Must Haves

Nivea is a brand I have trusted for years. Often the pharmacy finds are the best ones! I use this one on the weekends and I love that its waterproof. I can honestly say I will continue to use this one for more years to comelight and hydrating

My last one I use daily. When Summer arrives I don’t trust any body lotion that doesn’t include SPF. And I have found that  Aveeno makes a wonderful one! Its light in texture and perfume and it doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky. I believe its important to be safe and it starts with the morning moisturizer. To me it’s the perfect summer companion!

If any of you have other favourites you think I should try please let me know by commenting below! I would love to hear your experiences.

As always thank you for reading!
